Fifty nine bowlers today. If you can beat that let me know
But first, think this through. We are just an ordinary bowling club in an ordinary suburb. We are not Premier League. We don’t have a strong money-making club behind us and yet we have an astronomical role-up on the Bowling Green in late winter.
Why?
What is unique about The Beecroft Club?
- We saw the light nearly 15 years ago and had mixed: Men + Women social every Saturday…
- Because we have men + women every Saturday we have attracted the workers – Us professional people – still working and recognising the enrichment of lawn bowls – both socially and for sport.
Have you ever thought…in the working world there is:
- So much strategy – in the office and in the Board room
- People skills
- The thrill of the chase
- Win-win
- Negotiation
- Adapting to the skill set, and
- A social life…
We were blown away when we realised that we weren’t just talking about the 9-5 of the working world.
All these elements are on the bowling green
The Beecroft Club was ahead of its time
We combined the men and women’s clubs all those years ago on a Saturday afternoon. The traditional clubs only had the men on a Saturday. After all, women didn’t work and were happy to play their bowls on a Tuesday!!!
A couple of us professional women joined up but had nowhere to go because the only women’s day was Tuesday.
The then president of the men’s club has to be applauded – he quickly assessed the situation and invited us to play on Saturday. It was almost a scandal, but that is history now.
For a little while there were only two women playing on Saturday with the men but before long the numbers grew.
Now, who would be without us!!!
Saturdays at The Beecroft Club are vibrant and wonderful.
Today history was made
59 members turned up to enjoy the late winter sunshine with a game of bowls amongst peers, friends and competitors.
Stand proud Beecroft
All that aside – today was the third game of the Mixed Pairs round robin. There were some surprising wins and losses this year. The defending champions struck out. Oh no!
Never mind. We will be back!!!
What about the other rinks?
We are so proud to say that there were some brand new bowlers mixing it with the best and from the smiles on their faces after the game – they will be back!
Have you worked it out yet?
We always want to win. But no matter what, we are playing with genuine friends and will always be back for the next game…
What about you?
