Local options for Empty Nesters
Empty Nesters have been in focus in the Lifestyle Media lately. The prospect of having the house to yourself can result in such conflicting emotions. For me it is “Please, bring it on”!
After years of devoting time, money, love, effort, pain and joy to a bunch of children, a bit of thought should go into the next phase. Most of us don’t plan ahead though – probably because we have been too busy managing home, work, family and everything else!
Elisabeth Shaw from Relationships Australia was talking today on Radio 702 about coping with the Empty Nest syndrome.
Time to start thinking
Whether a couple or a single parent, you need to start thinking about what the Empty Nest will mean for you. What are your goals? So many of us have given up conversation time to the children so starting to talk about the future isn’t easy.
Couples without a social routine that doesn’t include the children are likely to find a gap.
Our house isn’t just us yet but we have already been busy planning. We found a gap when our children stopped playing Saturday sport and had social lives of their own. I’m into a Craftlifestyle, as you will see from the posts at SourceLocal, but you need to explore a few options for the next life phase.
We were super luck because we live near The Beecroft Club and had neighbours who played lawn bowls there. They invited us to an open day and the rest is history!
You don’t have to be retired to play bowls and you don’t need an empty nest – but planning for both those things is a great idea and playing bowls is a pretty good start.
We’ve been playing bowls at The Beecroft Club for twelve years and have enjoyed every second. For us, Saturday is the day to play bowls because we still work. You might like to join us, or you may like to try Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday.
