MAJOR – JOHN ROSS, 2019 CLUB CHAMPION, DEFEATING RON INCH
By Craig Davis
The major singles was a most anticipated game with the two form singles players in the club! John Ross got out of the blocks to a strong early lead.
Ron gradually found his range and started to make a comeback in the middle section. John’s resolve was evident in several great shots to win some key ends in which Ron was holding multiples. In the end, John had too much firepower to hold off Ron’s brave fightback, winning 31-12.
A great game with some excellent shotmaking. The scoreline did not reflect how close was the match.
MINOR, JOHN RIGELSFORD DEFEATED JOHN DI BELLA
By John Vanderlight
John Di Bella shot out of the gates with some very important turnovers to hold an early 7 point lead. John Rigelsford fought back to level the match and it stayed very close for the next 8 to 10 ends.
With the score at 14-13 in John Di Bella’s favour, John Rigelsford hit top gear and activated the turbo to the dismay of a very dogged John Di Bella.
18 straight unanswered points from John Rigelsford resulted in a 31-14 win in his favour.
TYRO, GRAHAM COOTE DEFEATED BARRY WALL
By Cliff Johnson
The final score of this game did not give a true indication of how close each end was. It was one of those games where Barry made it extremely difficult for Graham for the whole game and was regularly up 2 or 3 shots but Graham was able to sneak in his last bowl to win those ends with 1 shot.
There were not many “multiple shot ends” and I could see that Graham was feeling the pressure, even though he was holding a handy lead. It was near the end of the game that he sent down a wrong bias bowl (in front of the half time afternoon social bowlers).
Congrats to both bowlers, it was a great game to watch as you both played it in the right spirit.
VETERAN SINGLES, WAL SAVILLE DEFEATED PETER BRIAN.
Two champions of the game fought for this trophy. Both have earned their stripes with strong wins over the years, both in singles format and in team games for the club and Pennants. Well done to both for making it to the final. Congratulations to Wal on the win.
