Bias – 2018 Q4

Who are our sponsors?

The Christmas Party

14 December.

The best for years! Good on you Jane and Scott for some fab planning.

Momentum is building in our club and I think everyone was in the mood to party – to celebrate a shared year, and look forward to an exciting 2019. Some photos in the gallery below.

A game for all ages

3 November

In Saturday’s men’s triples final there were two players over 90, a couple over 80 and then the youngsters. Age didn’t determine the winners. There was an equal split on the winner and runner up sides.

The heat threatened to get us all, but you know us bowlers. We’re hard to stop!

John King, Peter Seale and Robin Ratcliff triumphed over Frank Bonaccorso, Reg Millet and David Hazell, but only just. The lead swapped a couple of times with a jump mid game by David’s team then finally a fight back at the last from Robin’s men.

Awards and Changing of the Guard

Email from the Chairman to Members following the 2018 AGM

Dear Members, Sponsors and supporters of The Beecroft Club,

At last night’s AGM two well deserving members of our club were awarded the Beecroft Medal. (See feature photo)

  • Carol Galvin has given her time and expertise to the club for many years. She has served on and off the board in roles as Secretary and manager of the sponsorship portfolio. Carol is often seen working down at the club, and has generously agreed to serve another year on the Board.
  • Bob Catherall is a mainstay of Dad’s army. Not limiting himself to Friday mornings, he is quick to solve a problem whenever the call goes out. If everything at the club works, it is in no small measure thanks to Bob’s handyman skills.

The thanks of members go to the outgoing board. Stephen Bruce stepped up as Chairman last year and devoted much time and effort. His tireless championing has seen successful outcomes for a range of projects on his watch.

Geoff Ashton will be a loss as he steps down from his role as Deputy Chairman. His board experience was of great value, not least, for the part he played in securing a number of grants for the club.

Sean Madigan will be missed, with his professional expertise in building often utilised as he advised the board on a number of projects.

Mike Keegan was of great value to the Board as minute secretary, particularly with his instigation of technologies.

Ken Harrison, Carol Galvin and John Rigelsford remain on the board, for which we sincerely thank them. They have already lent their skills and time to us and generously continue to do so.

A special thank you goes to Jane Byrnes. She has served on the board for a number of years, managing the Social Portfolio. It takes a lot of preparation to make the various functions run smoothly and successfully and she has done it with style.

This year the club was in the somewhat lucky position of having more nominations for board roles than there were positions. So as not to allow the club to miss the opportunity for new board members, Jane selflessly withdrew her nomination.

The board does not want to lose Jane’s talent and she has agreed to continue to manage the social portfolio as a consultant to the board.

We are also lucky to have Jane recently qualify as a coach. She is developing an innovative approach to coaching and we look forward to seeing her and the others in the coaching team introduce new players to the wonderful sport of bowls over the coming year.

Our Board has several new members who look forward to the opportunity to serve your club. These are John Totonjian, Phil Martin, David Hazell and myself.

I ask you all to join the incoming board as we work together to sustain and grow our club on into the future.

Kind regards,

Noelene
