Bias 2018 Q2-Q3

Bias 2018 Q2-Q3

Mixed Pairs

The most coveted trophy in the club has been decided for 2018.  Fresh from the triumph and tragedy of the trivia night we all fronted up again, with the expectation of a tight final.

Jan and Richard Morris were quick off the blocks and looked like they would keep the advantage. Lindy and Wal Saville kept up the pressure and by the time the rest of us were back from afternoon tea had edged ahead.  From there, the race was on but in the end Lindy and Wal gave themselves the advantage with a couple of big scores. In the end they couldn’t be caught so the trophy goes to Lindy and Wal. Commiserations Jan and Richard.

So Trivial

Paper aeroplanes, politically incorrect music, misleading graphics.  What else would you expect from a trivia night? The potential for a riot of course, with the inevitable dispute over answers! Look out for some photos in the gallery below.

  • We were relieved that the table of lawyers (our sponsors, Leverage Group) got the highest score on the Observation round!
  • Epping Travel didn’t do too badly with paper aeroplanes so you’re probably safe to book your next flight with them.
  • Roman Printing had all the coloured paper lined up for the answers – so an order of invitations or your first novel will be in good hands.

We were impressed to have a couple of tables from Probus.  No shortage of competitive spirit there and, better still, great to have them as friends.

Jane and Scott did a brilliant job setting the scene and establishing the challenge.  Just hope we’re not all too tired to play bowls on Saturday now.

Men’s Major Singles

August 2018: Congratulations Craig Davis. Club Champion 2018 with a 31:21 victory over Wal Saville.

It was a game worthy of a championship with impressive bowls from both competitors.

The spectators got to see a great game.  See some of the action in the gallery below.

State play-off

Our Grade 3 Girls had a win against the Karen Murphy and Aaron Wilson coached Cabramatta side!  See the blog…

Victory for Beecroft Grade 3 Pennants

On Tuesday 29/5/18 Vice President Pamela Jones and Secretary Fay Laney from the Macquarie District WBA presented to the Ladies of the Beecroft Grade 3 Pennant Team the Championship Pennant and Certificate. Also present were the Ladies from North Ryde RSL, who were the runners up to Beecroft in the competition they also received a Certificate. After the formalities an enjoyable morning of bowls was had by all.

Tuesday 8 May. Following Beecroft’s win in Macquarie, today the team played against Mitchell Grade 3 to see who would qualify for the State Finals in August.

All the grades were there at Castle Hill today to playoff. Castle Hill Grade 1 beat Carlingford, Gladesville Grade 2 beat Blacktown Workers, Beecroft Grade 3 beat Toongabbie and The Hills Grade 4 beat Brush Park.

It was a beautiful sunny day and we had loads of spectators from each club. It was thrilling to see so many Beecroft supporters and our girls didn’t let us down.

Jan’s team did a great job of coming up after an early deficit and everyone of her team played their heart out. Their score was 22 to 18 and Lesley’s was 24 to 13.

After the game was lunch in the auditorium and medals were presented to everyone in a winning team,
The State finals are 8-12th August at 1 of 4 venues at the Central Coast.

Men’s pairs over for another year

Good on Ron Inch and Clem Cawley.  Great to see a new combination triumphing in this major competition.

At the same time I would have loved to see that good old father-son combination of Ray and Phil Martin get up.  That’s bowls for you!  Always want everyone to win!
