Men’s Club Presentation
16 December: It was a hot afternoon but as usual there was no shortage of players. All appreciated coming in for a drink, in time for the final formality of the year. Congratulations to all winners. Check the honour boards and the gallery on this page. Special mention to Geoff Ashton for winning the Burt Princeton encouragement award. A worthy winner.
15 December: Success! The place was jumping. Not just bowlers enjoying the start of the Christmas slow down. The place was brimming with social members – teachers from the local school celebrating the finish of a successful year; and, lots of locals enjoying good company and a balmy evening.
What about the bowls? Who could have predicted that the Beecroft Fives would be so competitive? All games came down to a tie breaker and the skills were on show – we all wanted the winnings!
Ladies Club Presentation and Christmas Party
12 December: This was a lovely day – bowls and lunch with some firm friends is always a wonderful way to round off the year. Congratulations to all the winners – see the honour boards. (Photos will be in the gallery soon)
8 December: A wonderfully festive occasion. A large crowd enjoyed the evening – finishing the year with friends, music and dancing. See some photos in the gallery below.
In a hard fought final the team of Michael Nolan, Helen Hynd & Richard Morris were successful over the team of Alison Harrison, Ken Harrison & Bob Wallen. Congratulations to both teams on your competitive efforts.
Special thanks to the 18 bowlers (plus a couple of non-playing partners) who travelled down to Bowral to defend the ‘Bowral Cup’. Despite winning 4 of the 6 matches, we lost the Cup as it was decided on overall total shots, which favoured the Bowral side. Never mind!
Four intrepid Beecroft Bowlers are off to the Masters Games in Tasmania. We’ll keep you posted on how they go but for now, you can see that a couple of them have been spotted training, in preparation for the start of the Men’s Pairs tomorrow. Wish them luck!…
A few days later…
We all had some wins but not enough to get though to the finals. You know how it goes – Peter and John beat the team that ended up winning the Gold. Noelene and Craig also had some near misses but…for the four of us, the closest we got to gold was hanging out at the pub and touching the medals of the winners of golf, dragon boat racing, bocce, baseball…
That’s bowls for you!
23 October. Well deserved – Peter Seale was made a life member and Lesley Hines was awarded the Beecroft Medal.
Shirts and Skirts
2 October. It was always going to be a titanic match and that’s exactly how it turned out! 8 teams of women and 8 teams of men pitted in tough competition over three rounds of rapid 7 end games.
Two men had to become “honorary” women to make up one last team to get the numbers right. How good do they look? Come back on Tuesday boys!
After the first round the skirts pulled out to a tidy lead of 6 games to 2.
The men’s manager, Craig Davis, rallied his troops at the break and the men came out firing to reverse the results in the second round: exactly the same result, 6 games to 2 for the men.
So everyone geared up for a tight third round to decide the champions…….
How close was it! Overall 12 games each at the end, it came down to margin and the skirts prevailed with 15 shots.
Well done to the skirts team. To the shirts, better luck next time, there is always next year, as they say! The women’s manager, Jane Byrnes, along with Viv, were the best performed team on the day, with three wins.
